It was early morning on July 16, 1945. At the Alamogordo Proving Grounds of the Los Alamos Missile Range near White Sands, New Mexico, a select group of atomic scientists and U. S. military personnel gathered. In the distance was a 100 foot tower and at the top a shack housed a never before tested nuclear device code named Trinity.
